Did you meet your goals?
Yes i did meet my goals. Baiscally what my goals were is to be more responsible and learn more about what it takes to have a normal job, and how much effort you have to put in it. And also to finish this internship with a experience, and skills. And i think i did.
What are the most important things you’ve learned?
There are a lot of things that i have learned, but the most important thing is how to cimmunicate with professional adults. Especially where i was working. It's an Art company and everytime you meeting high level people, such as panelist, dance critics, so you have to have good commucination skills to communicate with them. And my mentor did a pretty good job teaching me that.
In what ways have your grown?
I feel like a grown woman. It might be funny to some people but ti's true. I learn things about myself that i didn't even realize i could do before. I feel more responsible and organize. I feel like i have more confidence and faith in myself.
What were the highlights of your internship experience?
If you can, describe a memorable moment or experience.
There are a few, but i mostly remember when i was talking with the dance critics on the phone. It was dufficult, but i learned.
What challenges did you overcome?
I am a shy girl, and my weakness is to speak with people, but while i was working in the Art council i feel more comfortable doing that.
What advice would you give a new intern at this site?
I'l tel them is to be very careful to the work that they giving you. They are really nice people. But if you make any mistake it will affect them. Just to be yourself, and be open to them.
What will you miss about your internship?
I will miss the exciting time we use to have. The events, the people there, and mostly working with them.

I was working in school helping ms carol grading the students work and putting it in her computer. It was fun. I loved it. It's good given them bad grades, no I'm kidding, i meant good grades. Then after i was making copies for her. It was alot. It was like 80 copies for each paper, and there were 3 papers. It took a lot of time. The bad thing that i did is print all three papers at the same time. So after i had to put then in order. It was alot, but Vanninzie came to help me, so it was much better. funnn

I was finishing typing the things i was suppose to type, and helping arma, so we could finish quicker. And also emailing the things i was typing to my mentor because she wasn't there. After i was done doing that, i was marking the name of entries of the company that my mentor and the panelist have reviewed already, and putting them in order alphabetically using excel. While i was doing that i made a mistake that mess up everything. The worst thing is that i saved it, if i didn't saved it i could have go back to the original page, but no.Then i started getting worried. I didn't know what to do. So i try a way to fix it. I had to do everything all over again until i did it right. It was a really bad day.

Today in Intership i wasn't doing a lot of things. Basically is typing information. I was typing some of the bios and projects the artist going to perform in the festival. It's basically for the experts to read and to give comments about them. its kind of way for it to easier for them to read. Some of the information was very long, so it kind of take time to finish typing, and it makes my fingers hurt.

Midpoint Reflection Questions
How has the internship been the same as and/or different than your expectations?
The internship have been different from my expectations. Things that i thought i would have been doing, wasn't it. I have been doing a lot of work. and i have been doing them over and over again. Sometimes it gets really difficult, but i try to get use to it. And to do my work.
What is similar and different about the culture of the school environment versus the workplace environment? What new skills have you learned that apply to the workplace?
The difference about the cultural of the school environment and were i work, It's where it locates. Where i work there's a lot of different companies in the same building. The location its a business place. People don't live there. There's only big companies an stores there. I meet new people every time. And very famous people, such as directors, publicist, writers, artists and more. There's nothing similar to where i work and the school. One thing i could say that is similar is that everybody respect each other, and fell comfortable. I have learn about excel, I had never use that program in my life till then. And also working there have improve my typing skills because i do that most of the time, and I'm getting better at it. I have learning all of the shortcuts in Microsoft and more. Not only that but also learning a proper way of picking a phone in a company.
What kind of relationship do you have with your mentor and co-workers? How have you grown as a result of interacting with professional adults?
Me and my mentor have a good relationship with each other. I always finish with all of her work, and have no problems. Sometimes they make jokes and we laugh. But sometimes there's some rough time, but i just try to get over it. That's how life is, there's always have to have some rough times. If not then you not living the real life. Now I have more experience how to talk to professional people in a proper way.
What challenges at the internship have you faced that you have overcome and how did you overcome them?
Once there were a big problem at my internship. One day my mentor was talking to us in a bad manner. And we didn't like it at all. I was getting really frustrated. She was talking in a way, like she wasn't appreciate the things I'm doing for her. And that hurts. So i talk to ms Artie so she could to our site and to talk the problems through. When we finish discussing everything telling her how we feel, i let go of that subject. It was a misunderstood. One other thing is talking to dance critics on the phone, i was really scared. They are so high level people, and that was a big problem for me.
What challenges have you faced in school as a result of the altered schedule and how are you handling them?
It's the home works. It's too much. There's too much things to do. But i try my best to do all my work on time. I do some of them in the train or bus sometimes. Sometimes i don't even have time to sleep. I usually go to sleep around 2 or 3 by doing homework.
What goals are you working to accomplish during the remainder of the internship?
I am just trying to pass. But most importantly getting use how the real life is. By doing this internship it shows me how the real life is. There is always a busy schedule. And having a good experience.
What new things have you learned about New York City?
I have learned things. Get use to the subway more. And that it's a big a city and there's a lot to learn.

1-2-08 A good day
We were having a conferance from the BOSS of the IAAC, Aroon. She is the executive director of IAAC. She was telling us how arts is so important in life in generall. She was tellin us if we are interesting in anything that have to do with arts, she could help us. Such as dance theatre, film and art. She knows a lot of famous artist and she could get them to help us, by getting familiar to any of these branches. What she was saying was true. Everybody in that world should really know about art. It's reallt fun and interesting. She said that everythime you do something in life, there's a part of it that have to do with art. And if you don't know it it will be bad for you.The movements that you do when you walking, working, or even reading have to do with art. She said that it doesn't always have to be math, science, history and other subjects.Kowing new stuff it's really important. It was a great discussion. She asked us about our dreams for the future, and all of us were sharing our ideas. It was great. After that discussion i was searching about schools in NY that are interesting in arts, so we could go to visit them. My mentor had this idea of visiting these schools and bringing these artists there, so they could know about our company more, and dance. She think it would be nice. She's going to come to our school too, but does't know when yet. We left kind of early today because our mentor have to leave, and didn't have that much work to do.

4-1-08 (things started going good then turn to worst, worst turn to good.)
Today was kind of a fun day. I was working in the school with Arma. We were researching about hotels in New york city by Indian owners for our mentor. We founded a lot of them, so we took some of them. not all of the dancers live in New york so,we were doing that so they could have a place to stay. My mentor thought it will be a good idea to do that, just a way of thanking them for participating in our dance festival. While we were doing that in the teacher lounge,i started didn't feel comfortable working there. All because of what a teacher said. i am not going to say no name. i couldn't believe it. i don't get why she would say something so mean. i didn't expect this from that teacher, because that's one of my favorite teacher. She came and said "why all these students doing here, is that the students lounge or something". The tone of the teacher voice was a really negative tone. I was like wow, it's like we were srangers or something. I didn't knowe there were a problem of being a student. (i said that in my head). what the teacher said stays in my head, and i couldn't even focus doing my work. Then i told arma that and she was feeling the same way, so we ask ms sherien to let us work in ms artie class, and she said yes so that was a relief. Now i prefer going to my site then staying in school. I thought i would have feel more comfortable working in school, but i guess i was wrong. After that we help ms carol putting grades in the her computer. Then after me and arma went to help Mr Shawn. we were put the new paltz picture and what the people wrote abou the trip in the board, clip them and everything. It was fun doing that, i loved it.

well today was a good day. ms Artie and ms Sherien came to my site to talk to my mentor prachi about arma, and how we work. she was having some difficulties working there. she didn't feel comfortable. such as the way prachi talk to her sometimes. they were solving the problem while i was working. I was calling dance critics from the yellow book to get their email address, so we could send them an invitation for the dance festival. Some of them sounded really excited. When o was finish doing that i took a chair an joined ms Artie, sherien Arma and prachi. I was listening to what they were saying, and talking. when they gone arma decided to stay in the site, i was so happy because i didn't want to walk alone. So when our teachers gone we were helping prachi with some of her works. I was searching about new dance critics that have participated in the newyorktimes news paper. getting their names and addresses, that's pretty much what we did. it was kind of fun, because now i feel more comfortable talking in the phone with other people. It feels easier.

Today i was suppose to go in my internship, but miss artie told us not to go. She said she have to clear some things with the people in my internship. They don't understand the way we suppose to work. they making us do more hours we suppose to do, and the way they make us work it's confusing. They said that whenever they want us to come we have to, and if thewy want us to stay for the time they want we have to. So we talk to miss artie about, so she told us to work in the school for today. The thing i was doing is putting some of the students old work down to put new ones. I was doing that, and also putting headlines. I did it nicely with different colors. For example i was writting " Descriptive writting". I did each work with different color papers, and cut it out, and put it in the wall.....

Today was a difficult day for me. i was confusing about what my mentor told me to do. But i did it as best as i could. She told me to go to the yellow book and start looking through it to look for critical dancers and to calll them, to know if they are still in the same company. And to tell them about the new dance festival. Before i did that. she put Arma and me in a competition. to stand in front of her and give an example of how we would talk to somebody in the phone. And we did. She had to choose between one of us to do it. And she pick me, but i didnt want to do it. I wanted arma to do it. It was hard. I call the people and they always putting me in in hold. i hated that. Some people that i called was really rude, i was getting fustrated. And another thing i hated by doing that is whenever i call somebody they always transfering me to somebody else. But it was a good experience. It help my talking, and listening skills. And talking to some of these critical dancers was a pleasure. well it was actually one of the that i talk to. but it was still good.

Today i was doing a lot of things. When i came to the office the submission forms and the CDs that i putted in order last week was all over the cabinet. I was kind of mad. Then after my mentor told arma to go to the library to return some CD's. And she told me to go rearrange the submission forms and the CD's over again. I was like okay. I started doing it, and i started feeling dizzy. so i stop and rest a little. Looking through all of these papers and put them in alphabetic order and groups take a long time. And that's why i was feeling sick, but i didn't say anything. I was almost done then Arma came, and she helped me finish everything. When i was done doing that i was putting the cds in the dvd so my mentor could see.

What a day (3-19-08)
Today i get to my internship at 1pm. There were nobody there. The office was close. So me and Arma have to stay outside untill our mentor comes. We waited outside for like 45 minutes or so. Me and Arma was bored so i was just sitting down and playing games in Arma's phone. And Arma was trespassing. When our mentor come, i was just sitting down with her and looking at the videos. I was giving her feedbacks about what i think about the videos, and to put them by group. We were doing that because the panelist is going to come tomorrow, to look at them. And by doing that it will be easier for them to choose which dancers will be participate in the festival.

"B0ring Day" (1-17-08)
Today was a boring day. We have being doing the same thing every week. Everyday when there's a package that comes in,(the submission forms) i'm suppose to check it to see if it have every thing in it, such as pictures, CD's, Bios and a resume. After i finish doing that i'm supose to file it in alphabetic order, by the entry name. When i finish doing that i was updated the information in the computer, such as the Emails, Adresses of the person, contacts and many more. When i was finish with that i didn't have nothing to do so my mentor ask me and Arma to put one of the DVD'S from one of the Artists that we have receive the submissions form for. While she was watching it she was just taking notes from it so she could choose who is going to be in the festival, and also to putting them by groups. For me i was just sitting down and watching the people dancing. At that time me and Arma was feeling kind of tired, and lazy. So we were just watching it a long.

The End of the First Week of Internships
What is it?
It's call IAAC, which means Indo-American Arts council, it's a dance company.
What kind of business is it and what kind of work do the professionals do there?
It's a company that have different parts such as Art, dance, theater and film. The work that they do there is work on making festivals, by inviting other companies that have dancers to work with them and do the festival. And also they work in book launches.
Where is it?
It's in Mahathan in 146 29Th street, in the 7Th floor.
Tell a little about your mentor.
My mentor name is Prachi, she is very nice and fun to be working with. but if you don't do the work that she tell you to do, she will be unhappy, which means if she get unhappy so will you. so the work will not go so great. she is the kind of person that like getting her work done, and she also like when you ask her for more work to do, every time you available. The more work that you ask her to do, the more easier it will be for you to work with her.
What happened on the first day?
In the first day the things i was doing was unexpected. i thought that i was going to work on computers, but what they make us doing is cleaning. it was a really bad day for me, i was upset, but i didn't show that. there were these things label with papers on them, which were very messy and i was suppose to organize them. it took a lot of time to get it done, especially because not everybody was participating. they were just standing there and looking at me working. it was a long day, and i was very tired, and i didn't want to go back again.
What kinds of things have you done so far?
I have been doing a lot of things. i have been filling papers, cleaning, researching and typing. I was looking through the submission forms about the other companies that have been emailing them to participate in the festival. and i was suppose to look over them and to see if they have everything there such as Cd's/DVDs, a form, pictures, bios, and also 5 previous events they have done before. And for the one that don't have these stuff i was suppose to write them down, that give it my other intern to write a letter to these people so they could know to email these facts.
What were some of the highlights of the first week? (Memorable moments, cool things...)
there's not a lot cool things really, the only thing is cool is calling other companies and tell them they have change their address and to give them the new one, which i didn't do, but my intern did, but it still look cool to me. but there's nothing really cool. The cool things hasn't come out yet, but i have been hearing about them.
When do you leave school?
I leave the school after lunch around 11:45 or 12
How long does it take you to get to your internship?
It take like 1 hour.
When do you arrive at home?
I arrive at home around 6
What is your schedule? (What days do you work and for how long each day?)
I work for only 3 hours each day, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, but now i heard i am going to work for 3 days but for 4 hours.
Who are the two people that can sign your time card? (Your mentor and the additional person)
The person that can sign it is my mentor, her name is Prachi, but sometimes when my mentor is not here so my co-worker sign it, her name is Nikita.
At this point, do you have any other questions, comments, concerns, queries, or inquiries?
no.
